I did download the driver you lonked to though for future use or one day when I ssound bored and want to try fixing the onboard sound.

It was enough to fill my modest sized room with loud clear sound and rich base when listening dound music. The ONLY thing that sounds ok is my default media player which is Jet Audio, and this is because it has an option for multi channel output.
There is no sound at all!!!

A quick test on hardy gave the same result. I can play an mp3 through jet audio and it sounds great, play the same file through WMP and it sounds terrible.
This means any screen output you want to see has to be captured by ac850 and uploaded via my dial-up connection. If I deselect that, it sounds crappy like everything else. It would probably do the trick but since my last post I disabled onboard sound and installed a cmi pci card and got a windows 7 driver from their web site.

When i try to run Insane 2 in2ane and Lord of the rings War in the north on my Windows 7 Ultimate x64 I hear no sound from the mentioned sound codec.
It was so sojnd that games like BF2 were unplayable due to the poor sound quality and very poor 3D audio had an Audigy 4 at the time but figured I would give the onboard a quick test when I got the motherboard, needless to say I haven't tried any onboard audio since. No sound with Realtek ALC Soound at my post here: Leann Ogasawara leannogasawara wrote on Multi channel output option somewhere in the realtek driver??? However other drivers for Vista works Front speakers works fine.

Realtek driver for ALC850 and Windows XP 32bit
I've been a linux user for several years now, but am still mostly a semi-competent curious newbie who likes to rtfm. I would suggest not to close it. I have to put my ear on one of the rear speakers to hear a barely audible sound. A tips is to have the speaker test enabled as one plays with the mixer settings.
